Se lanza en Panamá Campaña Mundial para la Reducción de Desastres 2008-2009

PANAMA, 11 March 2008.  UNISDR and WHO in the Americas (also known as the Pan American Health Association or PAHO) launched the regional campaign for the Americas in Panama City, at the Saint Thomas Hospital. With over 200 people in attendance, participants in this event included Dr Cirilo Lawson, National Director of Health representing the Health Ministry, Roberto Velasquez Abood, Director of the National System of Civil Protection (SINAPROC), Dave Zervaas, Regional Coordinator for the Americas of UN/ISDR secretariat, and Dr Guadalupe Verdejo of PAHO in Panama.

Hospital Safe from Disasters Campaign Launched in Ecuador

QUITO, 14 February 2008.  Dr. Caroline Chang, Minister of Health of Ecuador, presented the National Policy on Safe Hospitals with a program for implementing it at the launch of the World Disaster Reduction Campaign 2008-2009 "Hospitals Safe from Disasters".

GENEVA, 24 January 2008. Hundreds of hospitals and heath facilities are destroyed or damaged every year by disasters caused by natural hazards such as earthquakes, hurricanes and floods. Millions of people are left without emergency care during and after disasters when hospitals and health facilities fail to function.

UNISDR-WHO Global Campaign on Hospital Safety for 2008-2009

TEHRAN, 29 January 2008.  Following the launch of the World Disaster Reduction Campaign “Hospitals Safe from Disasters”, a Press Conference on the Hospital Safety ISDR-WHO Global Campaign 2008-2009 was organized jointly by WHO and UN/ISDR secretariat and hosted by the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tehran on January 29th, 2008.  The objective of this press conference was to raise awareness and draw the attention of Government, health decision makers and general public to the importance of safety issues in hospitals.

CAIRO, 22 January 2008.  “Hospitals Safe from Disasters”: An international campaign being launched by WHO Regional Office and UNISDR, 3 February 2008. We can all still recall images of the Tsunami, the most devastating natural disaster in living memory. Most of us, as individuals, and most countries have experienced a terrible earthquake or a devastating flood or hurricane. The lives of human beings and all living things are affected by these disasters, in addition to the destruction caused to buildings and structures.
